Tesco Expands Convenience Services with Royal Mail Parcel Lockers Amid Grocery Sector Competition
Tesco shares edged higher as the UK grocery giant launched a six-month pilot program with Royal Mail parcel lockers in select stores. The initiative allows 24/7 parcel collection and returns, eliminating the need for home printers by providing on-site label printing. Locations include Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Barrow, and six other towns.
The move comes as Tesco reports strong market performance, with 4.5% sales growth and 28.7% market share in the 12 weeks ending February 22. Grocery inflation remains elevated at 4.3%, forcing retailers to balance pricing pressures with customer convenience enhancements.
Competitors like Sainsbury's and Co-op are similarly expanding locker networks, intensifying the battle for market share. Tesco's strategy focuses on boosting both online and in-store sales while managing rising operational costs in the competitive UK grocery landscape.
